Check out Kirk Herbstreit’s top six teams in his latest college football rankings after Week 9.

With the College Football Playoff Selection Committee ranking the best teams in the sport for the first time this season in a few days, here is what ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit has as his top six teams in his latest college football rankings.

While there is no question with who should be the No. 1 team in the nation, there is a great debate  as to what teams should be ranked No. 2 all the way to No. 7. The latest AP Top 25 poll has the top seven in this order: Georgia, Cincinnati, Alabama, Oklahoma, Michigan State, Ohio State and Oregon. So it will be very interesting to see how the Selection Committee ranks these teams.

Here are the four teams Herbstreit has in the College Football Playoff, as well as his first two teams out after the Week 9 slate of games.

College football rankings: Kirk Herbstreit’s top four teams, first two teams out

  1. Georgia Bulldogs
  2. Alabama Crimson Tide
  3. Ohio State Buckeyes
  4. Michigan State Spartans
  5. Cincinnati Bearcats
  6. Oklahoma Sooners

Herbstreit has Georgia No. 1 with Alabama, Ohio State and Michigan State rounding out his top four in that order. The first two teams he has out are Cincinnati and Oklahoma. If there is any team guaranteed to be inside of the top four besides Georgia, it would have to be Alabama, but the Crimson Tide may not be the No. 2 team, as they have a tough road loss to the Texas A&M Aggies.

While it makes sense for Herbstreit to have Oklahoma on the outside looking in, it may be wishful thinking to have Michigan State inside the top four already. That is quite a climb and Cincinnati has been a fixture inside of the top four in the AP Poll for some time now. With Notre Dame expected to be a top-10 team after the first rankings, that may help the Bearcats start out a top-four team.

Though No. 1 is already decided, the first College Football Playoff rankings will be very telling.
