Leonard Fournette, CJ Gardner-Johnson almost come to blows at end of Bucs-Saints (Video)
Bucs running back Leonard Fournette and Saints defensive back CJ Gardner-Johnson had to be separated after New Orlean’s late victory.
Things got emotional after the final whistle of the Saints‘ victory over the Buccaneers on Sunday.
As the two teams mingled on the Super Dome field, Leonard Fournette and CJ Gardner-Johnson had words. And if not for the timely intervention of fellow players and staff, it could have been more.
Leonard Fournette and CJ Gardner-Johnson got into it after Bucs-Saints
It wasn’t clear who started the altercation. Gardner-Johnson is well-known for getting into it with opposing players and has been involved in many a fight on the field.
Then again, another angle from above showed Fournette was nowhere near the rest of the Bucs who were heading to the locker room.
Either way, it’s a good thing so many people around were quick to intervene and separate the two.
Tempers do flare on football fields, especially after a hard-fought game.
The Saints overcame the loss of starting quarterback Jameis Winston with third-string quarterback Trevor Siemian leading a field goal drive to take the lead with 1:41 remaining.
Of course, that gave Tom Brady the opportunity to engineer one of his classic comebacks. However, P.J. Williams came through with an interception returned for a touchdown to put the game away.
Tampa Bay is still at the top of the NFC South but the Saints are right on their tail with a big division win under difficult circumstances.
