5 quarterbacks Saints can add to replace Jameis Winston

4. Philip Rivers – Free Agent (Retired)
The man with enough children to form an intramural football team, Philip Rivers has been clear this offseason that his retirement may have been slightly exaggerated. He told the LA Times this offseason that he would make sure he was available as the season progressed in case his services were needed.
The former Charger and Colt spent seventeen years in the league and “retired” this offseason after taking Indianapolis to the playoffs. He may not have looked to be the same player from the late 2000s and early 2010s, but he was still better than many options the Saints are going to have for filling this position, including but not limited to Trevor Siemian and Taysom Hill.
On top of everything, this is the least costly choice the Saints will have. Rivers is not going to want a bank-breaking contract, nor a long-term contract. He also will not cost the team draft capital. He is a true short-term solution that will be able to keep the team in playoff contention.
3. Nick Foles – Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears are expected to trade away Nick Foles before Tuesday’s trade deadline. There is no reason to keep him on the roster behind both Justin Fields and Andy Dalton.
His price should be low, he does not require any long-term commitments, and maybe he decides to be the Foles from Kansas City and the Philadelphia Super Bowl campaign and not the Foles from every other season of his career.
The Saints should not move on Foles unless it is for a sixth-round pick, at most. However, if they bring him in, he can help keep the offense from turning into the New Orleans bakery, creating turnovers at the rate Siemian inevitably will.
He is better than Trevor Siemian and Taysom Hill but is probably still one of the worst names on this list.
