With Derrick Henry possibly out for the season, who can his fantasy managers add off the waiver wire to fill the void?

During Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry suffered a foot injury that looked like it could be serious before he returned. On Monday morning,  ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported it’s potentially a season-ending injury for the league’s leading rusher by a healthy margin (937 yards). Surgery is slated for Tuesday morning, and a 6-8 week recovery timetable takes him out for no less than the signficant balance of the fantasy football season.

There’s no replacing the No. 1 running back in fantasy football through eight weeks. But Henry’s fantasy managers are left to try to fill the roster spot he’s leaving behind, down the stretch of the fantasy season. Henry has been a league-winning player over that time in the past.

So who can Henry’s fantasy managers turn to off the waiver wire this week?

Fantasy Football: 3 waiver wire replacements for Derrick Henry

Scouting Report. Michael Carter. . 3. player. 30. Pick Analysis. RB, Jets

In Week 7 against the Bengals, Carter had 15 carries for 77 yards and a touchdown along with nine receptions for 95 yards (on a team-high 14 targets). Over the last two weeks, he has fully seized the lead back role for the Jets.

Carter has scored a rushing touchdown in three of his last four games, with over 100 total yards in each of the last two. In those two games, his passing game role has exploded (17 catches on 23 targets).

As you’ll see below, Carter is not as widely available as most backs on the waiver wire. But his bye week is done, and entering Monday Night Football (and unlikely to be unseated) he’s the fantasy RB1 for Week 8. As a RB2 in 12-team leagues moving forward, at worst, he should not be available in anywhere near one-third of fantasy leagues.
