Zack Greinke

Much like Verlander, Zack Greinke’s status in Houston is far from set in stone.

Greinke was brought in by the Astros to form a three-headed monster alongside Verlander and Gerrit Cole. They reached the World Series, but they fell to the Washington Nationals in seven games.

This year, Greinke was placed on the injured list with neck soreness, and only appeared in three postseason games as a pitcher. The right-hander did earn a Game 4 start in the World Series, where he surrendered zero runs on four hits and struck out three batters through four innings of work.

Through his three years with the Astros, Greinke accumulated a 3.89 ERA, a 1.141 WHIP and 239 strikeouts over 300.2 innings of work (52 games) in the regular-season.

Greinke is scheduled to become a free agent, and it is not a given that he returns to Houston or even opts to continue his playing career. It is certainly something to keep an eye on this offseason.
