Justin Verlander joined the Astros back at the 2017 MLB waiver trade deadline, and it appears his stint will be reaching its end.

Verlander was just as stellar during his time in Houston as he was during his prime years with the Detroit Tigers. He earned two All-Star Game nominations and won the AL Cy Young award in 2019, the second of his career.

However, Verlander only managed to pitch in one game in the truncated 2020 season before it was determined later in the year that he would require Tommy John surgery. As a result of the timing, Verlander missed the entirety of this season.

Given that there is uncertainty as to whether he will still have the same stuff following the procedure entering his age 39 season, Verlander is likely not being brought back to Houston. Who knows, maybe he’ll return to Detroit this offseason?
