Melvin Ingram will have a sack

The Chiefs made a much-needed move at the trade deadline to pick up Melvin Ingram from the Steelers. They’d tried to sign Ingram as a free agent but he decided to head to Pittsburgh instead. When he requested a trade after starting just one game and seeing his snap counts shrink, Andy Reid and company swooped back in.

It goes to show how much KC bought into the idea of Ingram that they were willing to trade for him now. They had a plan for him when they pursued him in the offseason and that plan can now be unfurled.

First, he has to prove he’s ready to play after missing the Steelers’ Week 7 game with an injury. There was a good sign of that on Wednesday with Ingram practicing as a full participant for the first time in a Chiefs jersey.

It would be putting too much on the 32-year-old’s shoulders to expect him to fix the Kansas City defense after just a few days of practice but he should help immediately. The fact that he faced this very Packers team in Week 4, with two QB hits and a tackle, gives the Chiefs coaching staff even more reason to play him.
