7. Boston Scott, Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles made everyone in fantasy quite made on Sunday. It was the perfect opportunity for Kenneth Gainwell to show he was worthy of the starting running back job with Miles Sanders going on IR. The Eagles had a huge day on the ground. They scored four touchdowns on Sunday against the Lions. None went to Gainwell. In fact, TWO went to Jordan Howard.

Boston Scott was clearly the guy treated as the starter. After weeks of people begging the Eagles to commit to the run, and they finally did it against the Lions. This week, the Eagles are taking on the Chargers, who are equally as bad against the run. Scott might not get two touchdowns like he did last week, but it’s absolutely on the table.

6. Elijah Mitchell, San Francisco 49ers

Here we go. We’re signing up for a Shanahan running back again, just for him to pull the rug from under us. The 49ers committed a ton of money to Raheem Mostert and used a day two pick to take Ohio State’s Trey Sermon. Now, former Louisiana running back Elijah Mitchell is the clear starter. The rigamarole might be over for now, because Mitchell honestly earned the job.

He’s had 18 carries and north of 100 yards in both of the last two seasons. He’s also had touchdowns in two straight weeks. Now, he’s facing an Arizona Cardinals team that might be in flux if Kyler Murray can’t go. This might be one of those weird games where things don’t make sense, but usually, when that happens, teams rely on their running game. The Cardinals have been able to keep running backs out of the endzone, but Mitchell will get plenty of yards.
