Matt Rhule

Matt Rhule may have bought himself some time with a victory over the Cardinals on the road. He made sure the clock started ticking again with a loss to Washington at home.

The Panthers held the NFC Wild Card place going into Week 11 but gave it away when they let the WFT come into Carolina and leave with a win.

Cam Newton look good in his return to Charlotte. Christian McCaffrey had 119 yards and a touchdown from scrimmage. The difference in the game was coaching. And unfortunately for Rhule, the guy on the other sideline outmaneuvering him was former Panthers head coach Ron Rivera.

Rhule’s game management is under fire for good reason. All season he’s been lacking in late decision making. That was the case again versus Washington.

There’s no better example of that than late in the game when trailing by three. Carolina faced a fourth-and-three with over three minutes to play. They sent out the punt team, heard boos from the crowd, called a timeout then sent the offense back out in a failed conversion attempt.

Nagy’s indecisiveness and mismanaging may have cost his team the game. And it may ultimately cost him his job.
