3 injured Cowboys that need to get back on the field immediately
1. Tyron Smith, OT
If there’s one thing that was evident against the Chiefs, it’s that the offensive line needs to be intact for the Cowboys attack to be at its full potential. And while starting Connor McGovern at guard over Connor Williams might’ve been a bigger problem, the crux of the issue for Dallas is missing left tackle Tyron Smith.
Smith’s absence for basically all of last season was second to only Prescott’s in terms of importance. He’s the heartbeat of the O-line and the player who makes everything possible for them. Yes, Terrence Steele has improved greatly this season from where he was last year but, even then, the team needs Smith.
Whenever Dallas is able to suit Smith, who has been dealing with an ankle injury, up, it changes what they’re able to do. That would then allow them to have Smith on the left, Steele at right tackle and then put La’el Collins at guard. Or it opens up other options. Without him, though, those options are exceedingly limited.
All told, it’s a tough spot for the Cowboys to be in regarding Smith. The good news, though, is that there was a possibility he could’ve played against the Chiefs but the team exercised caution. That’s a good sign that the left tackle is on the mend enough to be back soon, perhaps as soon as Thanksgiving.
