Nick Castellanos

Nick Castellanos is yet another DH option for the Cubs with prior knowledge of the franchise. He was traded to Chicago in 2019 from Detroit and spent one season playing at Wrigley.

From a hitting perspective, it was an excellent season. He hit 27 home runs and led the league in doubles. However, he was a liability defensively.

He went on to sign with the Reds as a free agent, becoming a meme for his penchant for hitting home runs at the worst moment. Along the way, he posted career numbers in 2021 before opting out to become a free agent.

Castellanos has spoken highly of Cubs fans and the sensation of playing at Wrigley Field. He got a taste for it in 2019 and could look to return for the DH role.

Given the defensive weakness, it would make the most sense to deploy him as a designated hitter, but he’s also gotten better in that department. So he could still come in handy as a position player if needed.

He might cost more than others, but he’d be worth it.
