Projected CFP rankings after Michigan beat Ohio State
By John Buhler
Michigan winning The Game over Ohio State has massive implications in the next College Football Playoff Rankings.
For the first time in a decade, the Michigan football team has beaten arch-rival Ohio State on the gridiron.
Not only will the Wolverines be playing in their first Big Ten Championship game of the Jim Harbaugh era in Ann Arbor, but one more victory will secure them a berth in the College Football Playoff. Unfortunately for the Buckeyes, the best they are going to do at this point is to play the Pac-12 champion in the Rose Bowl. Ohio State now has two losses and it is season over for them.
Here are what the next College Football Playoff Rankings could look like after Michigan beat Ohio State soundly.
Projected College Football Playoff Rankings after Michigan beat Ohio State
- Georgia Bulldogs
- Michigan Wolverines
- Alabama Crimson Tide
- Cincinnati Bearcats
- Oklahoma State Cowboys
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish
- Baylor Bears
- Ole Miss Rebels
- Oregon Ducks
- Ohio State Buckeyes
Georgia will stay at the top spot after shutting out Georgia Tech to get to 12-0. Moving up to No. 2 will be Michigan, as that was a dominating performance by the Wolverines over the Buckeyes. Alabama will stay at No. 3, assuming the Crimson Tide gets past the Auburn Tigers in The Iron Bowl. Cincinnati stays at No. 4 after defeating the East Carolina Pirates to get to 12-0 on the year.
Assuming an Oklahoma State victory over Oklahoma in Bedlam, the Cowboys will be just on the outside looking in at No. 5. The only other team with any sliver of hope of making the playoff will be slotted at No. 6 in the always pesky Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The rest of the top 10 will be Baylor, Ole Miss, Oregon and Ohio State in some order. None are playoff contenders anymore.
Bedlam will knock out one other playoff hopeful as The Game did earlier on Saturday afternoon.
