Ohio State football needs this chaotic scenario to make College Football Playoff
By Scott Rogust
The Ohio State Buckeyes would need the most chaotic scenario possible to just have a chance at making the College Football Playoff.
The Ohio State Buckeyes suffered their second loss of the season this past Saturday, where they were beaten by the rival Michigan Wolverines 42-27. With this, many were speculating how far the Buckeyes would fall in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.
On Tuesday, the Playoff committee dropped Ohio State from the No. 2 spot all the way down to the No. 7 spot. The second-overall spot now belongs to Michigan.
With one more rankings show on the docket, many believe that the Buckeyes’ Playoff chances are done. But, they do have a chaotic path to have a slight chance of clinching a berth. Here is how.
Chaotic scenario for Ohio State to have a chance at the College Football Playoff
In this scenario, Ohio State will need the Alabama Crimson Tide to lose big to the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game.
A fellow undefeated team, the Cincinnati Bearcats, would have to lose the AAC Championship Game to the Houston Cougars. That would help negate Notre Dame’s chances of making the playoff as well, since their lone loss of the year came against Cincinnati.
Then, the Oklahoma State Cowboys, who scored a huge win over the Oklahoma Sooners this past week, needs to lose to the Baylor Bears in the Big 12 Championship Game.
For those wondering, Ohio State would not need Michigan to lose to the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Big Ten Championship Game. Rather, they would need Michigan to win, as it would make Ohio State’s loss to the Wolverines look better.
This is the scenario Ohio State would need to happen this weekend, but we must warn you Buckeyes fans that it is not guaranteed that they clinch a berth in the College Football Playoff even if all of this happens.
