The Philadelphia Eagles are playing the New York Jets on Sunday, but will quarterback Jalen Hurts be active?

The Philadelphia Eagles lost to the New York Giants 13-7 last week, where quarterback Jalen Hurts threw three brutal interceptions on the day. Throughout the week, however, Hurts was limited in practices due to an ankle injury picked up in the loss. With a game against the New York Jets looming, will Hurts start under center for the Eagles?

According to Eagles reporter Derrick Gunn, Hurts will not play against the Jets on Sunday. Instead, Gardner Minshew will be getting the start in his place.

John Clark of NBC Sports was told that Hurts was a game-time decision, with Minshew receiving a lot of reps at the team’s walkthrough on Saturday.

Who will start at quarterback for Eagles on Sunday vs. Jets?

Even though he was limited in practices throughout the week, Hurts told the media that he still planned on playing in the game. The latest updates make that seem unlikely. Besides, Hurts’ ankle will limit the impact that he has in Philadelphia’s running attack.

Minshew had not started in a game since last season when he was still with the Jacksonville Jaguars. On Dec. 20, Minshew completed 22-of-29 pass attempts for 226 yards and two touchdowns in Jacksonville’s 40-14 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Minshew played in one game this season, and that was on Halloween against the Detroit Lions, where he completed both of his passes for 11 yards.

In his career, Minshew threw for 5,541 yards, 37 touchdowns and 11 interceptions on a 63.0 completion percentage. Minshew owns a 7-13 overall record at quarterback.

The Eagles face a Jets defense that has surrendered an average of 266.2 passing yards per game, fourth-most in the NFL.
