The Philadelphia Eagles may not have Jalen Hurts available to play vs. the New York Jets.

After falling to the division rival New York Giants, the Philadelphia Eagles could be without starting quarterback Jalen Hurts vs. the New York Jets.

Hurts hurt his ankle in the brutal 13-7 defeat to the Giants. This was a game The Birds had to have if they wanted to seriously contend for an NFC playoff spot. While there is still time to lock up a top-seven seed in the conference, losing a dud like that to a Giants team that is going nowhere is absolutely awful. The only thing that would make things worse is somehow losing to Gang Green.

If Hurts cannot play vs. the Jets on Sunday, that means Gardner Minshew will make his first start.

Jalen Hurts injury update: Philadelphia Eagles QB could miss Week 13

This is rough timing for Hurts. Not only did he play terribly in the Giants loss, but he got hurt in the process. While most NFL quarterbacks would have no issues beating the Jets, it is not like Hurts is running away with the starting job from Minshew in the first place. He won six games as a rookie starting games for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Will it be Minshew Mania in the City of Brotherly Love?

With the Eagles on their bye week after the Jets game, there is a chance Minshew could seize all momentum under center in Philadelphia. If you think that sounds crazy, just ask Carson Wentz about that. Not only that, but Minshew proved to be an infinitely better quarterback over Nick Foles in Jacksonville. Frankly, he’d still be there if Trevor Lawrence was not the No. 1 overall pick.

Nick Sirianni giving Minshew the start over an injured Hurts will spark a quarterback controversy.
