Brandun Lee looking at 2022 as the year for world title
Brandun Lee heads to the boxing ring for the last time in 2021 against Juan Heraldez on Showtime on Dec. 11. It could be the penultimate for a title.
Brandun Lee might be the biggest puncher in boxing’s super lightweight division. He fights for the last time in 2021 on Dec. 11 against Juan Heraldez. This could be the start of a warpath to a world title.
Lee (23-0, 21 KOs) is known for his knockout power. He boasts a 91 percent knockout rating and has never fought past the fourth round. His habit of taking opponents out early makes him an entertaining fighter to watch, but he takes a big step up in competition against Heraldez.
Heraldez (16-1-1, 10 KOs) is promoted by Mayweather Promotions and only has one loss on his record, which came in his last contest against former champion Regis Prograis in 2020. Heraldez lost by round 3 TKO. Lee would send a big message if he could better Prograis’ performance against Heraldez, but he’s not concerned with what other fighters have done. Lee is staying focused on himself.
“I’m not looking at whatever Regis Prograis did to the dude I’m fighting because, at the end of the day, styles makes fights,” Lee told FanSided. “I might go one round with this guy. I might go the full 10 rounds, all depends, you know, what I see and how I’m feeling that day.”
Lee is riding an impressive 14-fight KO streak. He knocked out both of his opponents in 2021 up to this point. It’s scary to think that at 22 years old that we may not have seen the best of Lee’s knockout power. It could increase, which should make every super lightweight leery of jumping in the ring with Lee.
Brandun Lee is looking to fight his way into the top of the super lightweight division on Showtime on Dec. 11 at 10 p.m. ET
“I’m a lot stronger than I was last year,” said Lee. “Physically, you know, even just mentally, I’m stronger. We all know boxing is 70 percent mental. Every year I’m getting stronger physically and mentally. Once I reach my 110 percent mentally [and] man-strength, I’ll be invincible.”
That could be very bad news for Heraldez and the rest of the division.
A convincing win over Heraldez could lead to another significant bout for Lee. He could be two or three wins away from leaping into the title picture. That’s all by design. Lee talked about his goal to reach a title by the age of 23 with The Desert Sun and elaborated on those plans to FanSided.
“I’m thinking by the end of 2022, I’ll be 23 years old and a half years old by the end of 2022,” said Lee. “So I think I’ll have my man-strength and all that, so I think it’d be time for me to get some kind of strap.”
As to who Lee would prefer to fight for a title, he’s open. Lee welcomes all comers.
“I’ll fight anybody. If I want something I’m gonna take it,” said Lee. “Once once the Josh Taylor goes up to 147, and those 140 belts are open, either I’m gonna go fight for a belt, or I’ll let one of these dudes go fight for a belt, and I’ll take the belt if I want.”
