6. Melvin Gordon – Denver Broncos

Javonte Williams is an obvious start this week. He’s been killing it for the Denver Broncos for about a month. Because he’s been killing it, that leaves Melvin Gordon in the background waiting for a chance. Gordon actually missed Week 13 with an injury, and he’s iffy to play this week. However, it’s the Detroit Lions. He doesn’t have to try very hard to get a huge output.

Obviously, keep an eye on the injury report this week. Gordon told reporters on Thursday that he plans to play. That’s good news because teams have a ball against the Lions. The Lions have given up 18 touchdowns to running backs this season. The Broncos have been known to give one touch to Williams in the red zone then another touch to Gordon. This equal treatment might allow Gordon to fall into the end zone against an overwhelmed rushing defense.

5. Devonta Freeman – Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens offense has been weird, and it really didn’t live up to the expectation against the Pittsburgh Steelers. They might have still won the game if the team didn’t overthink things and go for two with the game on the line. The Ravens had the Steelers reeling, and they decided to make a bonehead decision that cost them the game and likely seeding in the AFC playoff picture. They need a bounce back, and they can do that with their bread and butter.

That would be the run game. They are taking on the Cleveland Browns this week. There will obviously be a large dose of Lamar Jackson, but Devonta Freeman has proven himself to be a useful running back in the Ravens system. The Browns only give up 21 points per game to the running back position, but the Ravens hit different. Plus, the Browns still have given up over 1,000 yards on the ground. The Ravens just have to trust Freeman in the red zone.
