Russell Wilson weighs in on Austin Davis becoming new Auburn OC
By John Buhler
Russell Wilson heaps a ton of praise on his former Seattle Seahawks teammate/quarterbacks coach Austin Davis getting a huge opportunity to be the next offensive coordinator of the Auburn football team.
With Austin Davis leaving the Seattle Seahawks to become the Auburn football program’s next offensive coordinator, Russell Wilson offered a ton of praise for his former teammate and quarterbacks coach.
Wilson expressed why Davis not only will be a great offensive coordinator at Auburn, but a potential head coach one day down the line. He said Davis has great passion for the game, he has a great understanding for the game and is a great teacher of the game. For a former walk-on quarterback at Southern Miss to play seven years in the NFL, what a journey it has been already.
Davis leaves the Pacific Northwest to replace Mike Bobo as the main man in charge of Bryan Harsin’s Auburn offense.

After being released by the Tennessee Titans nearly three years ago, Davis rejoined the Seahawks as a member of Pete Carroll’s staff. He started out as an assistant quarterbacks coach in 2019, becoming the youngest quarterbacks coach in the NFL at 30-years-old in 2020. Davis will be 33-years-old by the time the 2022 college football season gets under way, but will he be ready for it?
Auburn fell apart down the stretch during Harsin’s first year on The Plains. Davis’ predecessor Bobo had been a longtime SEC offensive coordinator (Georgia, South Carolina) and had been in charge of the Colorado State program previously. Bobo and Harsin may not have meshed, but Davis has to get acclimated to the SEC way of life, as Auburn faces a ton of pressure in 2022.
If Davis is as good as Wilson says he is, Auburn could be two-to-three wins better next season.
