1. Patriots OC Josh McDaniels with Alabama QB Bryce Young

This could be totally wrong a year from now, but the best option for the Texans long-term might be to draft a superstar in the trenches with their top-five pick in 2022 (Aidan Hutchinson, Evan Neal, Kayvon Thibodeaux, etc.) and then make sweeping changes at quarterback and head coach ahead of 2023. The pairing of Josh McDaniels and Bryce Young could be what saves this franchise.

McDaniels almost took the Indianapolis Colts job a few years back. The New England Patriots offensive coordinator knows he has one more shot to be an NFL head coach after that unmitigated disaster over a decade ago in Denver. He cannot screw this up. If he does not take a job this upcoming cycle, he could replace Culley for 2023 with the right to coach the Alabama star.

As with Howell, Young is undersized. He may be the first Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback in Alabama history, but he has to go to the right situation to have success. This will be akin to the former Alabama signal-caller McDaniels is coaching in Foxborough in Mac Jones. Young is more talented than Jones and could be the next Kyler Murray or Russell Wilson to join the NFL ranks.

By pairing McDaniels with Young for 2023, the Texans will have the head coach/quarterbacking combo to eventually compete with the best teams in the AFC by the middle of the decade.
