Josh McDaniels will leave New England for the right starting quarterback

One of these days, Josh McDaniels will be an NFL head coach again. He nearly left the New England Patriots for the Indianapolis Colts gig four offseasons ago. However, he got cold feet and returned to Foxborough well past the 11th hour. In the meantime, he has continued to coordinate Bill Belichick’s offense. Mac Jones looks to be promising, but Justin Fields has the higher ceiling.

Given how much of an unmitigated disaster it was for him with the Denver Broncos over a decade ago, McDaniels will probably not be a candidate for the best potential vacancy in any offseason cycle going forward. Though the Bears could be an intriguing landing spot, they will be an undervalued destination if Nagy is fired. Perhaps McDaniels will make his way to Chicagoland?

This would be all about him being of the belief he can be the one to harness Fields’ raw talent and get this Bears team over the top. With strong connections to Belichick, McDaniels could assemble a strong defensive staff to back him up while he does his best to get this offense right. Of course, McDaniels may also have interest in taking over for Urban Meyer with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

One would think the Bears would be on the short list of teams McDaniels would potentially leave the Patriots for this offseason.
