Jimmy Garoppolo

Jimmy Garoppolo is a fascinating figure. The 49ers clearly didn’t believe in him as their long-term quarterback. They used the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to grab Trey Lance. Yet they’ve kept him in place as the starting quarterback this season.

Results have been decidedly mixed. Garoppolo started the season 3-4 with Lance mixing in here and there. However, since Week 10 San Francisco has found a bit of a groove, winning five of seven games to give themselves a shot at the playoffs. The quarterback has been solid in that stretch.

Garoppolo once held a ton of potential. He even led the 49ers to a 13-3 record in 2019. That wasn’t so long ago.

San Francisco doesn’t have a lot of bargaining power when it comes to getting him off their books. If they aren’t interested in waiting for his contract to end after the 2022 season, they could look to move him at a bargain price.

It might not be a trade to make Saints fans salivate. Still, New Orleans could do worse than adding a QB who has the 49ers in the playoff hunt.
