Bryce Young’s great 2021 year continued, as he broke an Alabama single-season record in the Cotton Bowl.

The transition at quarterback from Mac Jones to Bryce Young has gone quite smoothly for the Alabama Crimson Tide. His play throughout the season and in the SEC Championship Game helped the Tide clinch the top seed in the College Football Playoff. Young received a Heisman trophy for his efforts.

Things got even better for Young at the Cotton Bowl. On a lengthy opening drive against Cincinnati dominated by running plays, Young threw a touchdown pass to Slade Bolden to give Alabama an early 7-0 lead. Young made history, as that was his 44th touchdown pass of the year, passing Tua Tagovailoa for most passing touchdowns in a single season.

Tagovailoa set the mark back in 2018, where he threw 43 touchdowns passes in 15 games for the Crimson Tide. Additionally, he accumulated 3,966 passing yards and just six interceptions on a 69.0 completion percentage.

As for what happened in the 2018 season, Alabama carried a 14-0 record into the CFP National Championship Game, but were blown out 44-16 by the Trevor Lawrence-led Clemson Tigers.

After an impressive career at Alabama, Tagovailoa was selected by the Miami Dolphins with the fifth-overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Entering the College Football Playoff Semifinal game, Young threw for 4,322 yards, 43 touchdowns and four interceptions on a 68.0 completion percentage.

Young has record, but he looks to lead Alabama to back-to-back National Championship victories.
