5 reasons Georgia will repeat as national champions
By John Buhler
3. This should be an offensive-led team under Todd Monken’s guidance
Though Georgia will lose so much talent off its all-time great defense, expect for the Dawgs to be led by its offense in 2022. Todd Monken will best position himself to get another shot at being a college football head coach. His offensive system has been sensational in Athens since leaving the NFL. Look for Georgia to carve up opposing defenses with its well-balanced offensive attack.
2. Georgia has proven it can win a national title without elite quarterback play
No matter who quarterbacks the Dawgs next year, whether it is Stetson Bennett, JT Daniels, Brock Vandagriff or someone else entirely, Georgia showed to the rest of the college football world it can be an elite team without having elite quarterback play. Sure, the margin for error is gone, but the Dawgs proved to everyone that national championships can be won without winning shootouts.
1. The weight of the world is off Kirby Smart’s shoulders after winning it all
This is the biggest one of all. Smart had a gargantuan boulder taken off his shoulders. The former All-SEC defensive back took his beloved alma mater to the promised land. Smart is an elite recruiter, motivator and defensive tactician. Now that he is unencumbered by finally slaying the Nick Saban/Alabama dragon, the head coach can enter 2022 with the confidence to do it again.
Ultimately, Georgia will enter next season ranked inside of the top five, just like last year. Like 2020 Alabama, the Dawgs will lose a ton to the NFL Draft. However, few other programs are equipped to handle this level of attrition. Georgia has recruited at a top-three level for the last five years. Though it will not be easy, the coaching is what will get the Dawgs back-to-back titles.
Simply, Georgia is on a list of about five teams that can conceivably win it all next college season.
