Bryan Anger is a crucial weapon on Cowboys special teams

This might not be the most exciting inclusion on this list, but the Cowboys would be committing special teams malpractice if they don’t bring back punter Bryan Anger.

Quietly, Anger was one of the best punters in the NFL this past season. He led the league in net yards average per punt on the year and was consistently reliable as a veteran leg for that unit, switching field position on numerous occasions and almost never making back-breaking errors that can cripple a team’s chances.

If there’s one thing this team can’t neglect, it’s special teams. As such, keeping Anger should be a priority.

The Cowboys need to keep an improved safety core somewhat intact with Damontae Kazee

Almost any fan will tell you that the Cowboys have been searching for answers at the safety position for several years. Despite — much to the chagrin of many analysts and fans alike — not using a premium pick on a safety, Dallas actually found some much-needed help at the position this past season, thanks in large part to former Falcon Damontae Kazee.

Though an imperfect player overall, Kazee’s versatility and coverage instincts allowed Quinn to move him around and be multiple in different ways that benefitted all levels of the defense. That’s something the club should be looking to hang on to moving forward and the good news is that he shouldn’t come with a steep price tag to retain.
