Jayron Kearse earned a place on the Cowboys in 2022

Looking down the roster coming into the 2021 season, you wouldn’t find many people who would’ve said that veteran safety Jayron Kearse was going to be a key piece for the defense. But seemingly out of nowhere, the experienced defensive back came out and was a crucial piece for Dallas on that side of the ball this past season.

Kearse may not be an every-down player, but his ability to fill the box and cover at least adequately in his role showed up again and again throughout the regular season with big and timely plays that put the team in great position. Though he’ll be another year older, he more than earned a second contract with this organization.

The Cowboys simply can’t let Randy Gregory out of the building

This is the biggest free agent that the Cowboys have to be sure they don’t let go.

Randy Gregory’s career has been anything but normal or even consistent. He’s endured multiple suspensions and time away from the game and still came back this season and was clearly the Cowboys’ most physically dominant player coming off of the edge. Moreover, he’s not a loose cannon as he was early in the career and showed much more polish.

Despite the fact that DeMarcus Lawrence remains under contract and that Micah Parsons can come down and rush, Gregory should be considered a can’t-lose piece of this defense. What he offers off the edge is irreplacable on this roster and Dallas has to do whatever it takes to ensure that Gregory isn’t on one of the other 31 teams in the 2022 season.
