Draymond Green says Ja Morant is a candidate for MVP, not Most Improved
Golden State Warriors standout Draymond Green didn’t hold back and said that Ja Morant most definitely belongs in the MVP conversation.
What we’ve all been able to witness Ja Morant do this season has been nothing short of spectacular. Morant is in the middle of a monster year for the Memphis Grizzlies and folks can’t stop talking about him.
This includes Draymond Green, who made it clear he’s got nothing but respect for him. Matter of fact, Green didn’t hesitate in saying that while he doesn’t think Morant should win Most Improved Player for this campaign, he definitely thinks Morant needs to be getting more MVP love.
Draymond Green thinks Ja Morant could win NBA MVP this season
“When I say hell no about the MIP conversation – Ja, in my opinion, Ja has already passed that,” Green said. “Let’s talk about the MVP conversation. That’s the category that I personally feel like Ja Morant needs to be mentioned more in. He’s playing at an MVP-level, All-Star starter, all of those things he is at that level.”
Those are some powerful words from Green and it’s hard to argue with. Morant indeed is in the middle of a brilliant year for Memphis, as he’s averaging 24.7 points, 6.9 assists and 5.8 rebounds a night.
With Morant playing so well, Memphis is currently in third place of the Western Conference standings with their 31-16 record. They’re behind the No. 1 Suns and No. 2 Warriors. Green has seen first hand just how electric Morant is with the ball in his hands.
On top of that, Green noted that Morant’s leadership has impressed him as well. Morant will keep balling out and do everything he can to help Memphis make plenty of noise in the playoffs. In terms of the MVP race, Green will be one of his biggest fans if he ends up taking home the honors.
