Vikings fans hope GM hire can help them offload Kirk Cousins
With the Minnesota Vikings hiring new general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah to lead their organization, Vikings fans hope he can offload Kirk Cousins.
Kirk Cousins may have helped Justin Jefferson break a rookie wide receiver record in 2020, but there’s been discussions about Cousins’ efficacy ever since the Vikings signed him to a monstrous contract.
With the Vikings going with Cousins at quarterback, they’ve been able to rack up plenty of yards, but have faltered in getting wins at key moments. This has led a large and rather vocal faction of Vikings fans wanting to see him out of Minnesota — and they may have finally gotten their wish in the form of Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.
The new Vikings general manger comes to the Vikings as the former vice president of football operations for the Cleveland Browns. It didn’t take long for Twitter to make the connection: the former Browns executive could try to orchestrate a trade to his former franchise.
There’s now discussion that Cousins could head to the Cleveland Browns, which would only make sense for the beleaguered Ohio franchise.
Vikings fans anticipate a potential Kirk Cousins trade to the Cleveland Browns
Whatever Adofo-Mensah decides to do will likely fare better for the franchise than what the former general manager left behind. Rick Spielman, who spent 16 years as the Vikings’ GM, leaves the franchise with a 132-123-2 record.
The 40-year-old Adofo-Mensah has an undergraduate and master’s degree from Princeton and Stanford, respectively. He also spent time on Wall Street before working in the NFL, working for the 49ers as well as the Browns.
For a franchise distinguished by mediocrity, Kirk Cousins represents the kind of costly decision Vikings fans have been forced to tolerate in order to maintain the status quo. With Adobo-Mensah coming from the Browns to shake things up, he could work out a way to get Cousins out of Minnesota in anticipation of something better — even if he has to Osweiler it for someone like Deshaun Watson.
