3 Eagles players Doug Pederson can poach for Jaguars and get revenge
By John Buhler
Derek Barnett may not be returning to the Eagles after five years with the team
As it is with any losing organization, the first thing that needs to happen to get a ship turned around is to establish an identity. Surely, Pederson will do a fine job with that in his second stab at being an NFL head coach. However, that identity can only be manifested on the field. Jacksonville already has a quality pass rush, but it may serve them to see if the team can land Derek Barnett.
The former first-round pick out of Tennessee has been okay in Philadelphia, but has not lived up to his draft status. He may only have 21.5 sacks in his NFL career, but playing a bit closer to home could help. Barnett is a Nashville native, so having at least one game a year guaranteed to be in the Music City could be big for him. Of course, it only adds pressure on him to perform big time.
By pairing him as a complementary pass-rusher next to Josh Allen, Barnett has an outside shot at setting a career high in year one with the Jaguars. He has never had more than 6.5 sacks in a season, but this is Sacksonville, baby. While The Mayor of Sacksonville is not walking though the door, the head coach of the team who actually won the Super Bowl that year sure is in Pederson.
Barnett perhaps offers the highest upside of any former Eagle who could join Pederson in Duval.
