Los Angeles Chargers Mock Draft – Third Round

Scouting Report. Ohio State Buckeyes. player. 13. Pick Analysis. TE. Jeremy Ruckert. 79

Day two feels like a good time for a team like the Chargers to take a tight end. There will be several interesting prospects coming off the board from the position group in the second and third rounds. One player who would make sense for the Chargers to target with their No. 79 overall selection would be Ohio State Buckeyes tight end Jeremy Ruckert. Herbert does need a safety valve anyway.

In college, Ruckert caught passes from Justin Fields and C.J. Stroud, a first-round draft pick by the Chicago Bears and a 2021 Heisman Trophy finalist who should be a first-round pick either in 2023 or 2024, depending on when he decides to declare. What this signifies is Ruckert can do it all from a tight end’s prospective. He can run, block and catch passes from his days starring in the Big Ten.

By adding a talented tight end in Ruckert, this helps complement drafting London out of USC in the first round. The best way for the Chargers to have long-term success with Herbert as their starting quarterback is to protect him and give him plenty of weapons to play with. Since Ruckert can both block and catch balls, he checks both boxes the Chargers are in most need of offensively.

If the Chargers can leave day two with a wide receiver and a tight end, they will be in terrific shape.
