2. Anton Khudobin – Goalie, Dallas Stars (currently in AHL)

If the Fleury deal does not work out for Washington, they should look no further than Anton Khubodin. Khudobin, who was vital in the Stars 2020 playoff run, has not found playing time in the Stars goalie rotation this season.

The 35-year old from Kazakhstan has disappointed this season with a .879 save percentage but Washington may strike up a deal in hopes he returns to his 2020 form. The Stars backup possessed a .917 save percentage with the team last season despite a loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Final. This trade could be a perfect fit if Khudobin returns to form.

1. Ben Chiarot – Defenseman, Montreal Canadiens

Chiarot is a spectacular defender who could solidify the Capitals defensive pairings next to John Carlson. The Capitals traded away Brendon Dillion to the Jets last summer and have lacked consistent defensive play because of it.

Chiarot will likely come at a high price given Washington’s salary cap issues but a trade including a salary split isn’t out of the question for these two franchises. Montreal will be looking to rebuild their roster since they hold the worst record in the NHL. The team should gladly pay a portion of Chiarot’s salary in exchange for some picks.
