Only 12 games played in the last two years have made Isaac Seumalo expendable

With Brandon Brooks retiring this offseason, the Eagles offensive line could look vastly different heading into fall camp. Andre Dillard is a potential trade or cut candidate. While Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson are mainstays, missing a boatload of games the last two seasons have made veteran guard Isaac Seumalo expendable. He played in only 12 games in the last two seasons.

Seumalo has spent his entire career with the Birds after being a third-round pick out of Oregon State in 2016. He was part of the Super Bowl championship team in 2017, earning a bigger role in the offense the following two seasons. Though he has been a starter every time he can be out there, Seumalo played in only nine games in 2020 and managed only three this past campaign.

He equates for 3.41 percent of the team’s salary cap for next season. If released, he would be a $5.856 million dead cap hit immediately, but the number goes down to $2.018 million post June 1. With upwards of $5 million or so in savings, Seumalo is a candidate to be cut after June 1. This might be the final season of his three-year deal, but this recent investment has not panned out.

The Eagles have plenty of time to make a decision on Seumalo, so being patient will help them.
