Cubs legend Fergie Jenkins wins the award for best MLB lockout tweet

Chicago Cubs legend Fergie Jenkins won the internet on Wednesday with a tweet about the MLB lockout and his statue due to go up at Wrigley Field this year.

The MLB lockout has stretched long enough to possibly impact the start of the 2022 season and just about no one is happy about that.

For players and teams eager to get going, it’s disappointing.

For fans excited to see their players and teams on the diamond, it’s disappointing.

And for former players looking forward to special honors, it’s also disappointing.

On the plus side, the lockout has produced some incredible tweets, like the one from Cubs legend Fergie Jenkins on Wednesday.

“This lockout needs to end soon, I don’t have room in my garage for an 8 foot statue of myself!” Jenkins tweeted.

If you weren’t aware, Jenkins is set to be honored with a statue outside Wrigley Field during the 2022 season. A delayed start to the season could put the dedication of his statue on hold.

Here’s what the statue is supposed to look like.

Jenkins played for the Cubs from 1966 to 1973 and again in 1982 and 1983. He was a three-time All-Star and Cy Young Award winner. He won 20 games in six seasons with Chicago, leading the league in wins in 1971 and 1974.

He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991 and is a member of the inaugural Cubs Hall of Fame class.
