Maple Leafs trade rumors: Calvin De Haan

Calvin De Haan is the perfect fit as far as defensemen for the Maple Leafs come playoff time due to his grit and physicality. The Blackhawks defenseman is having a career year with nearly 2 hits per game. De Haan has also been an elite shot blocker ranking third in the league with 126 blocked shots. His physicality could help a Maple Leafs unit that ranks near the bottom of the league in hits per game this season (29th).

Chicago, due to a disappointing year, will be looking to rebuild their roster through the draft. The team will likely trade a couple of their veterans and restart in the offseason. For Toronto, on the other hand, it’s time to make a move. Toronto needs one more star piece to really have a shot this year and De Haan is the perfect addition.

Maple Leafs trade rumors: Claude Giroux

Claude Giroux is a versatile scorer who can provide consistency and leadership at both center and left wing. The Leafs recently traded away left wing Nick Ritchie to clear cap space and will look for an adequate replacement. The Flyers captain is second all time in points for the franchise and has provided 73 playoff points in his career.

The 34-year old has not lost a step this year providing 38 points in 48 games. Playmaking, leadership, and depth are vital to a championship run and Giroux checks off all these boxes. Providing quality shifts behind Mitch Marner and Austin Mathews is no easy task but this trade could instantly turn Toronto into the Stanley Cup Favorite.
