Bruce Arians on facilitating Tom Brady trade: ‘Bad business’
Tampa Bay Bucs head coach Bruce Arians said he has no interest in trading Tom Brady if he comes out of retirement and wants to play for another team.
If Tom Brady plays in the NFL in 2022, it’ll be with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
That’s the message head coach Bruce Arians was spreading at the NFL Combine on Tuesday.
The Bucs are committed to keeping a “door open” and a “light on” for Brady if he decides to come out of retirement.
However, any talk of Tampa Bay trading him so he can play somewhere like San Francisco is a no-go.
Bruce Arians says Bucs being open to trade Tom Brady is bad business
“Nope. Bad business,” Arian told NFL Network. “I’m not trading the best quarterback ever.”
The Buccaneers are willing to welcome Brady back to play for them under whatever circumstances come up. Even if they move on and find a new quarterback, he’d have to take a back seat to Brady if he made a late reversal. That’s the level of faith Arians has in the quarterback.
“If Tom Brady’s coming back, he’s back,” Arians said.
Of course, Arians doesn’t expect Brady to put them in a position where they put assets into a quarterback only for him to come knocking.
“That’s not Tom Brady,” Arians said.
Arians’ statements were pretty unequivocal. He’d love to have Tom Brady quarterbacking the Bucs in 2022. He’s not open to the idea of allowing Brady to go strengthen another team, regardless of the cost.
The very slim possibility of actually trading the future Hall of Famer would involve an offer Tampa Bay couldn’t refuse: “Five No. 1s? Maybe.”
