Steelers rumors: Time is now to trade for Jimmy Garoppolo

The price tag for Jimmy G has gone down steadily throughout the offseason. Rather than waiting for the NFL Draft, where the list of available veteran quarterbacks could be dwindling, the time is now to make a trade for Garoppolo.

Parting with a third-round pick, or some combination of Day 2 and Day 3 selections, for a quarterback of Garoppolo’s caliber makes all the sense in the world. While the Steelers have some holes to fill on draft day, it’s not the point of dire need. As long as they keep their first and second-round selections, all is well.

Garoppolo is capable of leading a team to the playoffs. Once he gets there, anything is possible with a defense as scary and turnover-capable as Pittsburgh’s is.

Trade for Jimmy G. Provide him with some offensive line help and worry about the long-term answer at quarterback later. Odds are, he’s not in this draft class anyway, especially if Willis is off the board by pick No. 20.
