Deshaun Watson trade rumors, Carolina Panthers

Carolina Panthers

According to Pro Football Rumors, the Panthers are interested in making a trade with the Texans for Watson’s services. Any move Carolina might make would be a clear admission that trading for Sam Darnold was a complete failure.

That conclusion should not be a shock to anyone who watched the Panthers play last season. Darnold was erratic at best after an encouraging start to the regular season. It’s fair to point out the reality that both spotty offensive line play and a costly injury to star running back Christian McCaffrey hurt Darnold’s production last year, but Carolina still understands he’s not the answer to their quarterback concerns.

The Panthers are still a little short on draft capital after the Darnold trade which might make it difficult for them to meet Houston’s asking price. On the other hand, they might be the most desperate team on this list to land a potential star quarterback.

Rhule knows that owner David Tepper isn’t going to tolerate another season of bad football no matter how much money is left on his contract. Carolina needs to get better at quarterback immediately and dealing for Watson might be their best opportunity to become relevant in the NFC South.
