2. Rickey Henderson

Henderson played just one season with the Red Sox in 2002. Throughout his entire MLB career, he played for nine different teams and earned the nickname “Man of Steal,” due to frequently stealing bases. Henderson’s original team was the Oakland Athletics, which he played for four separate times. He played for the Athletics the most out of any team during his career. He retired with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2003.

Henderson was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2009 and currently holds the record for the most steals of all time. He stole 1,406 bases total throughout his career. He is nearly 500 steals ahead of the second-highest base-stealer of all time, Lou Brock. He set the bar extremely high.

Henderson was also commonly the lead-off batter. His hitting ability and his ability to steal bases went hand-in-hand, and he often was the league’s leading run-scorer. He considered his steals a sign of a game played hard (via National Baseball Hall of Fame).

"“If my uniform doesn’t get dirty, I haven’t done anything in the baseball game.”"

Henderson is one of the best MLB players of all time, and his scoring and stealing ability is unmatched. Nobody has come close to beating his record, and it’s an honor that the Red Sox can claim a few of those steals as part of their team.
