1. Tom Seaver

Seaver was most known for playing with the New York Mets and turning the team into a successful one. He helped the Mets achieve their first World Series win in 1969. He pitched a strong game and earned the nickname “Tom Terrific.”

Though Seaver primarily played with the Mets and is highly associated with them, he pitched the final games of his career for the Red Sox. He faced a knee injury shortly after joining the Red Sox, and he went back to the Mets the next season and retired with them. Seaver had a tough time coming back from his injury, and he announced his retirement shortly after some tough outings.

Though it wouldn’t be the ideal way to retire for anyone, Seaver seemed to be appreciative of his time in the MLB (via Alex Coffey, National Baseball Hall of Fame).

"“That’s not a sad situation from my standpoint. I think it’s a very self-satisfying and gratifying situation because I can reflect for the rest of my life that I got every ounce out of it that I was supposed to get out of it.”"

Seaver sadly passed away in 2020, but his legacy will never be forgotten.
