Mets: Buck Showalter stares down Phillies after Jeff McNeil HBP
New York Mets skipper Buck Showalter looked downright furious after Jeff McNeil was hit by a pitch on Wednesday afternoon.
The New York Mets batters can’t stop getting hit by pitches, with the latest occurrence coming on Wednesday in a showdown with the Philadelphia Phillies. In the top of the fourth, slugger Jeff McNeil was plunked by Aaron Nola, bringing in a run for the visitors.
Despite New York increasing its lead to 3-0, manager Buck Showalter was not happy whatsoever. He’s tired of seeing his players get hit and his reaction told the entire story.
Buck Showalter was furious with the Phillies and Aaron Nola for hitting Jeff McNeil
That was quite the stare from Showalter and he no question sent a message to the Phillies. The veteran skipper is sick and tired of seeing this happen to his guys. Luckily, no one has suffered a serious injury.
That doesn’t mean that Showalter isn’t going to do everything in his power to protect his players. For the Mets, there’s a ton of pressure on them to live up to the hype this year after such a busy offseason.
This included the signing of Max Scherzer, who was furious himself earlier in the contest too. In case you missed it, Scherzer was spotted in a heated back and forth with the home-plate umpire. Tensions have been rising for the Mets as a whole since early on in the game.
If another Mets player gets drilled in this one, you could expect an even more fired-up Showalter to voice his displeasure. Showalter will likely speak out on the McNeil HBP after this one wraps up as well. You can tell just how upset he was about this happening.
