2. Oswald Peraza

Cashman’s recent actions fully merit fans’ beliefs that he’s a “prospect-hugger,” but that doesn’t mean Peraza is off limits if the right offer comes rolling in. The team’s current depth at the shortstop position means they can part with the premium prospect in a deal that brings an established star back to the Bronx.

If Anthony Volpe wasn’t entrenched as the team’s No. 1 overall prospect at the moment then dealing a talented shortstop like Peraza would be a non-starter for the front office. Volpe, along with current starter Isaiah Kiner-Falefa gives the organization enviable depth at the key infield spot.

The emphasis here is that Peraza will only be moved in a trade that brings a difference-maker back to the Yankees. He isn’t going to be traded for anything resembling an average regular. He is the team’s best potential trade chip to leverage this season assuming they aren’t willing to part with Volpe.

It’s unlikely that another team will meet Cashman’s asking price for Peraza, but expect to see him mentioned in a lot of potential high-profile deals. If New York is willing to let him go it could rocket them to the top of the list of potential buyers at this year’s Trade Deadline.
