Mid-Rotation Arm

The Yankees rotation currently consists of Gerrit Cole, Luis Severino, Jordan Montgomery, Jameson Tallion, and Nestor Cortes.

In four games started for Cole, he is 1-0 in 18 innings pitched, walking eight, giving up eight runs, including three home runs, while striking out 21.

Severino has started three games and is 1-0 with 13 innings pitched. He’s given up three runs, including a home run while walking four and striking out 14. Montgomery is 0-1 in three games started. He’s thrown 14.1 innings, he’s walked five and given up four earned runs while striking out 11. Tallion is 1-1 in his three games started, with 14.2 innings pitched.  He’s given up five runs, including three home runs. He’s struck out 13. And Cortes has no decisions in three games started, with 15.2 innings pitched. He has three walks and given up two runs, including one home run. He does have 25 strikeouts.

The Yankees need a starting pitcher who can throw strikes and prevent the other team from launching home runs in their very hitter-friendly ballpark.  It is early in the season, but the current rotation is not going very deep into their games which can wear down the bullpen while they try to keep the team in the game.
