Watch Jorge Alfaro walk it off for Padres with three-run homer
By Scott Rogust
The San Diego Padres trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the ninth on Sunday, May 8, and they earned the walk-off win on a three-run homer by Jorge Alfaro.
The San Diego Padres took the first two games of their four-game set against the Miami Marlins. The Marlins took the Saturday, May 7 game and looked to be on the verge of taking the Mother’s Day game on Sunday. But that all changed in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Trailing 2-0, Jorge Alfaro was called upon to pinch-hit for the Padres with Trent Grisham and C.J. Abrams on base. On the first pitch thrown by Cole Sulser, Alfaro sent it deep to left center field to give the Padres the walk-off 3-2 victory and to take the series.

This was Alfaro’s first home run since hitting one in San Diego’s 10-5 win over the rival Arizona Diamondbacks on Apr. 10.
Miami had gotten to their lead on a sacrifice fly by Garrett Cooper in the top of the fourth and a solo home run by Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the sixth.
Even though the Padres had gotten five hits off of Marlins starter Trevor Rogers, they were unable to put runs on the board. After he was replaced to start the bottom of the sixth, the Padres had gone hitless when facing Anthony Bender, Anthony Bass and Steven Okert. Yet, that all changed when Sulser entered in the bottom of the ninth, which ended with the Padres scoring the three runs to win.
The Padres now move onto a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs (May 9-11), while the Marlins take on the Diamondbacks in three games (May 9-11).
