3. Cardinals prospect Nolan Gorman could be an asset to trade for Xander Bogaerts

What if the Red Sox really brought Trevor Story to Boston in order to play shortstop? I’m kidding, of course, but if Xander Bogaerts is traded to the St. Louis Cardinals, the Red Sox could easily shift Story back to the position he played all those years in Colorado.

The Red Sox currently have Jeter Downs, who looks to be a second baseman rather than a shortstop at the next level, but Boston could add another prospect to the keystone in the form of Nolan Gorman.

Gorman was moved full-time to second base last season, and while he could be an eventual replacement for Tommy Edman in St. Louis, Boston might prefer to have the former first-round pick wearing a Red Sox uniform.

There’s a lot of swings and misses in Nolan Gorman’s bat, but he possesses the type of power that very few second basemen actually have. While it may be painful for the St. Louis Cardinals to part with one of their top infield prospects, that’s what it may take in order to land Xander Bogaerts in a trade.
