Giants trade rumors: Frankie Montas

One of the more popular names on the trading block this past offseason was pitcher Frankie Montas. After the top free agents signed, all eyes were on the Oakland Athletics, who have embraced the rebuild after moving on from stars Matt Chapman and Matt Olson this offseason.

The Athletics moved on from two of their starters. They sent Chris Bassitt to the New York Mets and Sean Manaea to the San Diego Padres. That leaves Frankie Montas, who was also subject to trade speculation this offseason.

According to Peter Gammons, two general managers said the Athletics won’t be trading Montas for at least two months, meaning they will wait until the trade deadline gets closer and the offers increase.

Through eight starts this season, Montas recorded a 3.67 ERA, a 1.020 WHIP and 53 strikeouts over 49.0 innings.

The Giants should be giving the Athletics a call to see what it would take to acquire Montas.
