5 early bold predictions for Georgia football in 2022
By John Buhler
4. Todd Monken will 14 personnel the SEC to death en route to a Power Five gig
It is going to be beautiful, so let’s enjoy it while we can. Dawg Nation must accept that this will be offensive coordinator Todd Monken’s last year with the team. Georgia already has Mike Bobo on staff, so it has a succession plan baked in already. Simply put, Monken is going to get the shine he has always deserved from what he does in the passing game for the Georgia offense this season.
With Stetson Bennett IV as the undisputed starting quarterback, look for Monken to 14 personnel the SEC to death with an absolutely unstoppable buzzsaw. With four tight ends out there (Brock Bowers, Oscar Delp, Arik Gilbert, Darnell Washington), no team in the Power Five will be able to defend this one-of-a-kind offensive package. Monken will should a Power Five gig after this year.
Do not be shocked if tight ends coach Todd Hartley starts to make some headway in a year or so.
3. Stetson Bennett IV will be pushed, but never realistically challenged at QB
This will make some of Dawg Nation bone-throwing mad, but this is Bennett’s team. Though he may never be able to eclipse those peak moments from the Orange Bowl and the national championship, Bennett has complete control of Monken’s offense. While competition from within will, dare I say it, help him get drafted, nobody is taking the starting job from Bennett this season.
“The Mailman” will deliver more often than not. Georgia will be blowing out teams on the regular so often that Carson Beck, Brock Vandagriff and even Gunner Stockton will all see the field. While there will be moments where Beck looks better than him and Vandagriff offers greater upside, consistency and confidence will be what keeps Bennett the unquestioned starter throughout.
Look for Bennett to push for an All-SEC team and take home the Burlsworth after this season.
