3 Red Sox players who won’t be on the roster July 1

1. The Red Sox will use the minor league option they have on Ryan Brasier
Ryan Brasier has been one of the most frequently used relievers out of the Red Sox bullpen this season. Only Austin Davis has more innings in relief. The performance hasn’t been stellar. Through 17.1 innings, he has a 5.71 ERA, and a big reason for it is the 5 home runs he has allowed.
Brasier has been with the Red Sox for several seasons now, first joining them in March 2018. The best way to describe his tenure is a “box of chocolates.” You really never know what you’re going to get.
Brasier has been as good as posting a 1.60 ERA in 2018 to the 4.85 ERA he had in 2019. He has managed to escape multiple demotions in his big league career and actually carries with him one more year of minor league options left in 2022. As Boston looks to put together a quality bullpen, he’s one of the longer-tenured candidates who could see his spot on the roster disappear with a demotion.
Luckily, the Red Sox should keep him around within the organization and use him similarly but more often than Valdez. Boston actually has quite a few relievers with minor league options remaining which is a good strategy to have because it can allow a manager to have fresh arms on a regular basis.
