White Sox: Josh Harrison won’t be on the roster past July 1

Two-time All-Star Josh Harrison seemed like a player who could be a sneaky good signing by the White Sox when they brought him aboard this past offseason.

33 games into his White Sox career, Harrison has statistically been one of the very worst players in the game today. After two consecutive respectable seasons in a row in 2020 and 2021, nobody could have seen this bad of a display coming.

In 107 plate appearances so far this season, Harrison has zero home runs and just three RBI. He has also walked only four times and has an OPS+ of 47 (100 is considered average).

Now, Harrison’s value does not come strictly from his offensive output. Long a reliable, versatile defender who can play anywhere on the field, he has lined up at second and third so far this year and has been worth a total of 0.3 dWAR per Baseball-Reference.

Similarly to the case of Vince Velasquez, there doesn’t appear to be a huge list of players who could easily slide into the space that will inevitably be opened by Harrison’s departure. Danny Mendick and Jake Burger are both on the active roster and can play second base, but an intriguing non-40-man roster choice could be young infielder Yolbert Sanchez, who has looked great so far in 41 games split between Double-A and Triple-A for the Sox.
