Former Angels manager Joe Maddon cut his hair into a mohawk to motivate his players during their long losing streak but got fired before he could debut it.

It’s bad enough Joe Maddon’s firing came in the middle of a franchise-record losing streak. It turns out the timing was even worse than it first appeared.

According to Tim Kurkjian of ESPN, the Angels manager actually got a mohawk to surprise his team in hopes of motivating them to end the losing streak.

He was fired immediately after.

Desperate times called for desperate measures. But those measures didn’t make any difference for the team or their manager, who was left with an extreme haircut and no job.

Big yikes.

Granted, Maddon didn’t exactly deserve to keep his job. The Angels should be one of the powers in the AL and for a moment they looked like it. They just couldn’t sustain it.

A 14-game losing streak with stars like Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, Jared Walsh and others was flat-out unacceptable.

Maddon was already on thin ice and the losing streak made his position even more tenuous. It’s partially on him for not realizing the ax was potentially hanging overhead.

The only thing missing at this point is photographic proof of the haircut. Hopefully, someone gets a hold of one because imagining Maddon with a mohawk isn’t particularly easy.

The Angels appointed Phil Nevin as the interim manager after parting ways with Maddon. It’s up to him to motivate the team the rest of the way, with or without a haircut.

Next. Angels may already have Maddon replacement in mind. dark
