Oilers: Evander Kane is on the outs

When the Oilers brought Evander Kane aboard this past offseason, the move was met with mixed reviews. Kane is an excellent player and an above-average goalscorer but he has hade a ton of controversies on and off the field throughout his career.

Kane, coming off of a season in which he violated NHL COVID-19 protocols by making a fake vaccination card, missed the first 21 games of this year after earning a suspension for his carelessness. All in all, he made 43 appearances for the Oilers, scoring 22 goals in the regular season and then 13 more in the playoffs.

Of course there’s also the suspension he received in this year’s Conference Finals against the Avalanche. Kane cross-checked Nazem Kadri into the boards, causing Kadri to miss the remainder of the series due to injury. The NHL suspended Kane, forcing him to be unavailable in the game the Avalanche eliminated Edmonton.

The 30-year old recently took to Twitter to pen what seems to be a goodbye to Edmonton fans and his teammates. It seems likely that the Oilers will not bring him and his lengthy track record back for a second season.
