1. Harris English is an under-the-radar contender at the 2022 US Open

Sooner or later, Harris English is going to capture his first major championship. This week at Brookline could be his best chance to date. English has finished in the Top 5 the past two years, and he’s looking to overcome the odds this week in Massachusetts.

English did not play in the Masters or the PGA Championship after undergoing hip surgery, but the 32-year-old will be on the course this week. English has the type of game necessary to win a US Open, and with his last two PGA Tour victories coming in sudden-death playoffs, the Georgia native has proven that he’s battle-tested.

English won the Sentry Tournament of Champions last year after defeating Joaquín Niemann on the first hole of the playoff. Then it took eight extra holes for English to capture the Travelers Championship over Kramer Hickock.

Harris English had his best-ever finish at a major tournament during the 2021 US Open, falling three shots short of Jon Rahm. English was well off Bryson DeChambeau’s torrid pace during his victory in the 2020 US Open, but he still finished in fourth place at Winged Foot.

The Country Club at Brookline will present its own share of challenges, but his success at the US Open the past two years will do nothing but help English this weekend. English’s absence from the previous two major tournaments will have him flying under the radar as play begins on Thursday.
